Leaning on God During the Difficult Journey of Grieving a Child
Leaning into God during difficult times can be a powerful and healing way to find peace and strength.
When we turn to God during grief and in times of need, we can find comfort in His presence and guidance. We can rest assured that He has not left us alone in our pain, suffering or even in the death of a child.
So, how can we lean into God during difficult times? Here are a few ideas:
Pray: Praying is a powerful way to connect with God and to express our needs and concerns. When we pray, we can open our hearts and minds to God, and we can trust that He is listening and will guide us through our struggles. He already knows your heart, your needs, your wants and your pain. Be vulnerable with God and allow Him to draw you close during a time of deep grief.
Read the Bible: The Bible is a rich source of guidance and encouragement, and reading it can help us to find hope and strength in times of difficulty. God's Word is living and quite literally comes alive and speaks to us differently each time we read it. Open up the bible and read passages that speak to your current situation; allow God's Word to speak directly into your life.
Seek out Christian community: Surrounding ourselves with other believers who are walking a similar path can be a powerful source of support and encouragement. Attend church, join a small group, or seek out Christian friends who can offer love and support as you lean into God. There are many Christian resources in the loss community for bereaved parents you can connect with. You can find many of them here.
Practice gratitude: Focusing on the good things in our lives, no matter how small, can help us to keep perspective and to find joy in the midst of difficult circumstances. Take time to reflect on the blessings in your life and express gratitude to God for His goodness.
Surrender: Surrendering to God's will and plan for your life is the most difficult of all. It requires full dependency on Him in your day to day living. Every morning you wake up, you are reminded to allow the Holy Spirit to move in you however He wants to move that day. Surrendering to God goes against our fleshly desires but reminds us that our Creator is in control, and always has been.
Leaning into God during difficult times can be a challenging but ultimately rewarding journey. It requires us to let go of our own strength and to trust in God's love and guidance. But as we do, we can find peace, hope, and strength in His presence, and we can trust that He is with us every step of the way.
